15 years of The Talented...

5 years into recording my own solo work, I decided (and amassed enough work) to start DJing. Immediately inspired by DJH2 (Halo) and remotely inspired by DJ Green Lantern (ColumBINE Gang!!!), I first started working on mixes with just the laptop alone (2010). After my incarceration and listening to Carl Cox, I got RIGHT into making records for mixes. 2012, Boe (shockingly) got me my first turntable deck. I am immortally grateful to him for that, no matter what we went through.

I never looked back.

15 years and 4 decks later, I'm more confident than EVER before in my turntable ability. In fact, I might even make a mix now.

 This summer has been SO good to #TheTalented! I configured a way to use the turntable deck I have to work without being fully functional. And I've been making some SOLID mixes with it. And I know. All this talk/non-talk about me as a DJ, where the mixes at??

So again, I burned out another turntable deck. I DEFINITELY use force and magic when I mix, so it was only a matter of time. Sucks, but I gotta move on.

Harlem Daft (CH x H2) is still in full effect. Halo uses a deck at work (he DJs at Coney Island), but for the most part, he is laptop bound. I don't wanna look like Im trying to show him up, so I will DEFINITELY be working on laptop mixes.

Very excited for the future. Expect mixes of course, but more 3YM (3rd Eye Magic), Enjetic, and the new guy!, Danny Casper. 

All of which are riding the Voodoo wave.

I HAD A BLAST with this thing. Well, in the beginning, the right turntable would work. Before the right one stopped up, I made SEVERAL mixes. Remember, I was in a halfway house. I couldn't get down the way I needed/wanted to. Now that I've moved into my apartment, I have all the time and space in the world.

Just no deck.

Quite a while!!!

MUCH has gone down since I last blogged. My mixes got picked up by D&A Radio, and are played on lowband FM radio all across the country. I think from 5-8pm on Wednesdays. Don't quote me. And it's been a while since THAT update was made, so things likely have changed. All I know is, I spun on NYE 2024, from 7pm to 7am. That's a feat by itself.

I also happen to make beats from my turntables. I PREFER to use a deck, but I'm pretty good at only using my laptop. Which might be an omen, because as of today (Saturday, April 5th, 2025), MY DECKS ARE BURNT OUT. After a GREAT, 3-hour live session this past Friday, my deck shorted out while I was making a beat, and that was all she wrote. It could be time for another deck, or simply time to say goodbye to decks IN GENERAL and make room for the new.

Stressful is the life of #TheTalented...

If I end up stuck with JUST the MacBook, I have plans. Not as much scratching (even though I can do it on here), but perfect blends (in mixes) and impeccable chops (in beats). I think Electronic Christmas is the best example of impeccable chops. Regardless of this being my own blog, I'm not here to toot my own horn. I just know I put forth the best effort in all I do.

And everything CH does musically all comes out in a TTMH mix.

How to spin.

The debate continues: get a deck, or spin with just my laptop? I recently rocked a house party with just my laptop. Scratches and all. But I won't lie, I felt like a square. A HUGE square. I think a part of DJing is KNOWING you're cool while you do what you do. I always put on a show, but MOVING while I spin seems to be a real draw. So, ...I don't know. It comes down to funds. Do I have the funds to get a sufficient deck? 

Pioneer isn't all that reliable (though they're VERY good in the beginning), and I started off with a Nu-Mark. I can be rough with my decks (I cut with FORCE!, lol), so it could be a matter of me learning how to take better care of my stuff. At the same time, I know I'm not the only one. Shouts to Dieselboy and The Crystal Method. 

Fuck it. I'll get a deck. Pioneer DDJ-SB3. I don't care if they're discontinued! I'll find one...!
